The first iteration of Staged this autumn features Darko Dragičević and Pontus Pettersson and will address their work with performance installations, simultaneously testing and asking how choreography works when it is installed rather than staged.
Warmly welcome!
Tuesday November 10th
19:00-21:00
RSVP to stagedconversations@gmail.com
The conversation is free to attend and there will be something to eat.
The conversation is facilitated by Oda Brekke and takes off from a choreographic structure with a set of performance directives introduced on site.
Darko Dragičević (RS/DE/SE) is a Belgrade-born, Berlin/Stockholm-based performance and visual artist who explores the intersections of choreography, performance, dance, visual art, and film. He uses choreography and film direction as conceptual frameworks and artistic approaches to rethink performance and exhibition as hybrid formats. His work critically examines the conditions of artistic production in a high-performance, post-capitalist society, focusing on the aesthetics of the economy, queer identity, labour, and social organisation. In addition to interdisciplinary projects and intermedial collaborations, he publishes, lectures, and curates.
Pontus Pettersson is a Swedish artist and choreographer based in Stockholm. His practice operates within the expanded fields of choreography, art, and contemporary dance. His artistic work brings together diverse practices and genres, intertwining text, objects, sculptures, and choreographic instructions. By applying choreography to everything he does, his work spans installation, poetry, fountains, objects, cat practice, and dance. Pontus trained in dance at the Danish National School of Performing Arts and holds a master’s degree in choreography from Stockholm University of the Arts and a master’s degree in fine arts from Konstfack. Alongside his own artistic practice, he works with Delta, a participatory, movement-based platform, together with Izabella Borzecka, and co-directs the dance and performance festival My Wild Flag with Karina Sarkissova.
About Staged:
With an interest in the conversation as a site for engaging in a process with unknown results, a potential for both undoing and producing discourse, this initiative wishes to be a commonplace for testing, sharing and developing language and thought in relation to artistic practice.
Each conversation gathers artists working with performance around a theme or material. Through a procedure specific to each conversation the guests are invited to discuss their methods and experience, as well as what appears in the art field and society at large.
Staged experiments with the particular conditions and possibilities for participating and listening to a conversation in public. It aims to be both a playful and critical tool to practice and embrace the difficulty and faliure that talking and listening in public often entails.
If staging something means to raise the floor, to style and enhance attractiveness, can you stage a conversation whilst also committing to its movement away from what you know? A movement away from yourself?
The conversation series is initiated and facilitated by choreographer Oda Brekke.
