Welcome to an evening gathering with film screening, readings and conversations around the topics of the ongoing exhibition in dialogue: house_Flow Research Studio & Peter Stridsberg. It’s our pleasure to have artist-architect Tonia Carless PhD, the initiator of house_Flow, visiting from UWE Bristol to expand the ideas on Anarchitecture posed by Gordon Matta-Clark and house-moving as an architecture of de-growth in relation to the research.

The practice of lifting buildings and moving them wholesale, or cut into sections to move, (husflyttningar) remains an integral part of the practice of occupying space in Sweden. It changes what we understand about architecture as immobile and about the form and speed of change.

Analysis suggests, through the mapping of 400+ individual structural house-moves, that there is the possibility of recovery through vacancy and the freedom of movement of individual houses. This original, practice based research documents the virtually unrecorded, unplanned, mass spatial re-arrangement through the individual re-positioning of buildings. Most significantly this research underscores that vacancy and continuing occupation of buildings does not need to rely on profit after a moment of investment. Counter Move will offer this new research to develop consideration of an architecture of de-growth through instability.

The research has been shown at Copenhagen Architectural Biennal 2025 and UmArts Centre for Architecture, Design and the Arts 2026, including a residency. It has also been shared through guest teaching, in a workshop at Umeå School of Architecture 2026.
